How to Install Version 2

Disk one contains the install program. It creates a new directory and copies the software into it. Insert disk one disk in the floppy drive (drive A or drive B.). How you proceed depends on whether you are in MS-DOS, OS/2, Windows, or Windows 95.

Installing on DOS, Windows 3, Windows 95

• From MS-DOS, type A:INSTALL or B:INSTALL and press <Enter> to start the installation.
• From Windows, pull down the File Menu from the top menu bar, and select Run. Type A:INSTALL or B:INSTALL and press <Enter> to start the installation. Once you finish the standard installation, you can set up the MegaDots program icons by running the MEGAICON program. Pull down the File Menu from the top menu bar, select Run, and then type C:\MEGA\MEGAICON.COM <Enter>. We recommend restarting Windows before proceeding.
• From Windows 95, Click on Start, then click on Run. Type A:INSTALL or B:INSTALL and press <Enter> to start the installation. If the Install window is too tiny to read, click on the maximize button (the middle of the three buttons in the upper right corner of the Install window). When the install is over, click on the close button (the right-most of those three buttons with an X on it). Once you finish the standard installation, you can set up the MegaDots program icons by running the MegaIcon program from the DOS prompt.
• From OS/2, choose the Command Prompts option, and then choose DOS Window. Type A:INSTALL or B:INSTALL and press <Enter> to start the installation. To create an icon for MegaDots, use the Migrate to Desktop feature.

Some Issues During Installation

• During the install, you are asked to consider the name of the hard disk directory for MegaDots. Although we recommend C:\MEGA, you can choose a different drive or directory.
• We recommend that you include the MegaDots software in your standard path.
• You are asked if you want a braille keyboard in MegaDots. Answer appropriately.
• You are ask whether you want the system files modified to work better with MegaDots. This is NOT recommended for Windows 95 systems.
• The install program asks which screen access program you are using so that it can copy voice configuration files to your speech directory to make them operate automatically.
• The install program will notice if you are running Windows 3 or Windows 95 and ask you if you want to install an icon for Windows.
• The icon software asks if you have a speech/braille access command for MS-DOS. This makes it easier to automatically launch your MS-DOS screen reader just before MegaDots is launched. If you have a batch file, such as SPEECH.BAT, that launches your MS-DOS screen reader, then reference it here.
• If you want to change some of these options, rerun the install program, you are offered a menu of choices.
