Jaws 3 Information

Jaws for Windows offers speech and braille access for the Windows 95/98 environment. JFW 3 and higher contain support for MS-DOS programs, provided that your program runs in a window instead of full screen. MegaDots can be used with JFW, with a few impairments. First, the big dots and special braille display modes do not work with MegaDots in a window. Second, because of the complexity and limitations of configuring JFW for an MS-DOS program, speech may not work the same way with MegaDots.

We are in an ongoing process of fine tuning JFW for use with MegaDots. If you have any suggestions, please contact us. Thanks goes out to Mike Parr in England, for his initial help with JFW script files. In order to setup MegaDots to work with JFW, run the program MEGAICON, and answer "y" at the JFW prompt. You may wish to consult the online Interface Guide (F10 H I) for more up to date information about JFW. If you are having major problems using MegaDots with JFW, please consult our web page (http://www.brailleplanet.org), or call our technical support line at 608-257-8833.

Many of the Alt-letter key combinations used by MegaDots are overridden by Jaws. Therefore, you may have to make use of the Jaws "passthrough" key, Alt-3. For instance, to bring up the Body list, press Alt-3 Alt-b. We will have updated lists of which MegaDots keys are overridden in future versions of the interface guide.
